Groundwater pump and treat

Groundwater pump and treat involves pumping of groundwater, usually from dedicated abstraction boreholes. It is then treated above ground before disposal to foul sewer or to an on-site soakaway.

Free-product hydrocarbons are removed from abstracted groundwater by passing through oil water separators. Stripper towers or tray strippers may then used to remove volatile hydrocarbons. Additional polishing of the treated groundwater can be carried out using bioremediation or activated carbon technology, if necessary. Pump & treat may be used in combination with SVE in order to lower the water table thereby exposing more unsaturated zone for vacuum enhanced removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
